With support of the City of Columbus, the Franklin County Commissioners, and Wholesome Wave, Veggie SNAPS provides individuals enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) with a monetary incentive to purchase fruits and vegetables at 14 participating farmers markets throughout Central Ohio.
Here’s how it works: Shoppers with EBT visit a participating market and swipe their Ohio Directions Card at the market info tent. They receive tokens to spend on SNAP eligible products and a match of up to $10 of purple Veggie SNAPS tokens to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables. Farmers and food producers redeem the tokens like cash and receive reimbursement from the market. Shoppers can visit multiple markets a week to multiply the incentive!

Veggie SNAPS has benefits to shoppers and growers alike. Incentives allow more customers the opportunity to purchase the healthy, locally-grown ingredients that had previously been cost-prohibitive. Additionally, increased sales to new customers also make both growers and farmers’ markets more economically viable.
